DOHA, QATAR / 2010
This 200 square-meter restaurant was conceived as an elegantly modern Mexican dining experience within the unique Qatari sands. Theatrical tapered columns with Mexican motifs soar four and a half meters high to create a dramatic yet subtle ambiance. Taking our cue from the local environment, we selected muted, sandy tones of upholstery, plastered walls and polished sandstone floors to create a warm and comfortable setting. A swirling, sixteen-meter-long feature wall evokes the shifting sands of the Sahara desert and provides an eye-catching backdrop for the abstract sculptures of Mexican artist Paloma Torres. Meanwhile, circular banquettes and sheer drapery partitions allow diners to have an intimate eating experience.
