Good dining design is meant to complement, not dominate the restaurant experience, believes Ilan Waisbrod, principal of New York City based Studio GAIA.  So when he set out to create a visual aesthetic for STAND, a neighborhood burger joint in Manhattan’s Union Square neighborhood, he knew he wanted something that was modern, but at the same time, warm, simple, and homey.  “The idea was to craft a sophisticated design that has longevity and (would) be comfortable.” Waisbrod says, nothing that he did not want to create a stark, minimalist look.  “It’s meant to last for 10 years or more and still maintain its modernity.”
